Matikon GmbH & Co. KG optimizes development processes for mechatronic systems according to Automotive SPICE® and ISO 26262
Matikon GmbH & Co. KG, formerly known as fischer automotive systems, has taken a decisive step towards further developing its development processes. As a specialist for high-quality vehicle system solutions, particularly in the areas of air vents and storage systems, the company has increasingly turned its attention to mechatronics and electronics in the automotive sector. Examples of this include cup holders with temperature control and actuator-driven charging flaps for electric vehicles, which not only meet functional but also safety-related requirements.
Challenge and objective
The increasing integration of electronics and the growing importance of functional safety in Matikon's product solutions have led to greater complexity in product development. In this context, it has become necessary to systematically align the development processes with the requirements of Automotive SPICE® and the safety standard ISO 26262. Automotive manufacturers in particular require their suppliers to develop in accordance with Automotive SPICE®. In addition, ISO 26262 is required for safety-critical products.
Project approach and collaboration with Process Fellows
Matikon decided to work with Process Fellows, an expert in Automotive SPICE® and ISO 26262, to align the existing development processes and the tool chain used specifically to the new challenges of mechatronic development. Following a comprehensive assessment of the current processes, a detailed action plan was drawn up that included the relevant steps for optimization.
The entire process world at Matikon was revised as part of regular workshops that took place over a period of 15 months. Process Fellows contributed valuable suggestions and practical examples of process structures and templates. These were adapted to Matikon's specific needs in close collaboration and integrated into the existing process world. In addition, an Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tool was introduced and configured in line with the new processes.
Successes and outlook
The project has made significant progress: The relevant processes from Automotive SPICE® and ISO 26262 have been successfully integrated into the Matikon process world, and the tool chain has been adapted accordingly. The first implementations of the new processes have already been successfully tested.
Thanks to the preparatory work carried out so far, Matikon is well prepared for future challenges and can now ensure that its development processes meet the highest standards for mechatronics and functional safety.
